WHAT TO EXPECT

WHAT TO EXPECT

OPENING & LESSON

We begin each class with a warmup and acceptance of ourselves, just as we are that day. In Meisner, nothing has to be left at the door. We then launch into a lesson ranging in focuses from Meisner to voice science to psychology to emotions in the voice.

COLLABORATION & PLAY

Students sing either accompanied by our pianist, a cappella, or with their own instruments, and work in a one-on-one session with Jillian with the option to film their session for reflection and sharing.

CLOSING & HOMEWORK

We close each class reflecting and looking at the week ahead. Approximately an hour and a half of homework per week is expected of each singer throughout the 12 sessions.

Jillian received her master’s in music theatre from Oklahoma City University, her bachelor’s in classical vocal performance from Belmont University, and studied Meisner under Terry Martin (a direct pupil of Meisner’s), and Ted Wold. She recently made her Off-Broadway debut as the villainous Madame DeFarge in A Tale of Two Cities with the Village Light Opera Group and has performed with companies such as Actors Theatre of Louisville, the Nashville Opera, and Kentucky Opera.

With a Certificate in Neuroscience and Voice, Jillian is passionate about helping singers maintain beautiful singing while achieving emotional freedom and impulsivity in the moment.

As an academic artist, Adam applies his research on mindfulness, the psychology of emotions, embodiment practices, and trauma-informed leadership in his teaching.

OUR APPROACH

10.png

We believe in teaching a technique, not just tips and tricks. Through our 12 Week Core Class, artists can expect to gain applicable tools that may be applied well beyond their time in class.

39.png

In a commitment to fostering a more inclusive artistic community, we offer 20% Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Scholarships to artists from historically underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds, gender identities, and individuals with disabilities.

50.png

Meisner in Music is dedicated to providing singers as safe as space as possible to do work that can so often feel unsafe. We do this by consistently striving to uphold Trauma-Informed principles, which include safety, transparency, empowerment, and choice.
