Starting

Sept 10th

Our 12 week Core Class is an intimate, connected space in which all genres of music and levels of ability are welcome. Wherever you are in your artistic journey, you can expect to gain a knowledge of an actual technique, not just tips and tweaks, to get out of your own way while making music and trust your body, voice, and impulses in the moment.

12 Weekly Classes

Students choose one class to attend once a week for the 12 weeks. The classes are three hours long, capped at 9 students, and a pianist is present at each.

Technique Tailored to You

Whether you've had extensive Meisner experience or none at all, we meet each singer where they are. You will learn both individually at your level and from others at all levels. Our class sizes being capped at 9 ensures that you'll have ample individual work time and personalized attention.

A Final Off-Broadway Performance

Culminate your 12 weeks with a final performance that is centered around accomplishing your goals and showcasing your transformative work.

When, Where, & How

When We Meet

Artists choose to be a part of either the core class that meets on Tuesdays from 6:00 - 9:00pm or Fridays from 1:00 - 4:00pm.

Where We Are

We are located in the heart of New York City's theatre district at The Chain Theatre. You can find us on Google Maps!

How Classes Work

We spend 12 weeks digging deep into the Meisner technique and building upon a collective goal to culminate in a final performance. In class, you'll engage in both group Meisner exercises and individual singing work.

Opening & Lesson

We begin each class with a warmup and acceptance of ourselves, just as we are that day. In Meisner, nothing has to be left at the door. We then launch into a lesson ranging in focuses from Meisner to voice science to psychology to emotions in the voice.

Collaboration & Play

Students sing either accompanied by our pianist, a cappella, or with their own instruments, and work in a one-on-one session with Jillian with the option to film their session for reflection and sharing.

Joyful Closing & Homework

It's important that in a space where we may go deep and sometimes dark, we exit full and with some light. We close each class by sharing joys and celebrations of the week. Homework is typically given and we go off into our weeks, hopefully better than we came.

Our

Approach

  • We believe in teaching a technique, not just tips and tricks. Through our 12 Week Core Class, artists can expect to gain applicable tools that may be applied well beyond their time in class.

  • Meisner in Music is dedicated to providing singers as safe as space as possible to do work that can so often feel unsafe. We do this by consistently striving to uphold Trauma-Informed principles, which include safety, transparency, empowerment, and choice.

  • In a commitment to foster a more inclusive artistic community, we offer 20% off Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Scholarships to artists from underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds, gender identities, and/or with disabilities who have been historically excluded from Western classical music and North American musical theatre.
